Ever have one of those years where you look back and think, “Wow, did I really do all that?” 2024 was exactly that kind of year for me. Pour yourself something festive as I walk you through some of the coolest projects that kept me up at night (in the best possible way).
Turns out, selling medical products online isn’t just about slapping a “Buy Now” button on a webpage. I navigated the complex maze of HIPAA compliance while building a fully functional e-commerce store. Think encrypted data, secure patient information handling, and enough documentation to fill a small library – all while keeping the user experience smooth and friendly.
Sometimes the app store just doesn’t have what you need. I built a custom private Shopify app that acts like a digital matchmaker, helping third-party software play nicely with our store. It’s like being a relationship counselor for software – getting different platforms to communicate without drama.
Discovered Showit this year and, wow, what a game-changer! Rebuilt our entire website using this platform, which feels like giving WordPress and Squarespace a high-five and making something entirely new. The creative freedom is incredible – it’s like having a graphic design playground with actual functional e-commerce capabilities.
Successfully moved an entire subscription program from Squarespace to Shopify without losing a single customer (or my sanity). Think of it as performing heart surgery while the patient is running a marathon – everything had to keep working while we moved all the pieces. Our subscribers barely noticed the switch, which is exactly how it should be.
Although it didn’t go live (yet!), I built a custom app using Shopify Functions that generates products on the fly. It’s like having a digital factory that creates custom products based on user input – think “build your own adventure” but for e-commerce. The potential for personalization is mind-blowing.
Worked with a fashion designer to plan their line’s pre-sale strategy. We created a digital runway for their physical products, complete with early access perks and VIP customer experiences. It’s like building backstage passes into your e-commerce strategy – making every customer feel like they’re sitting front row.
Created not one, but FIVE different wholesale portals, each tailored to specific brand requirements. Each portal is like a custom-tailored suit – designed to fit perfectly with different pricing structures, minimum order requirements, and brand experiences. It’s about making B2B feel as smooth as B2C, just with bigger order quantities.
What strikes me most about these projects isn’t just their technical complexity – it’s how each one solved a unique business challenge. Whether it was ensuring patient privacy, streamlining wholesale operations, or helping a designer launch their dreams, each project pushed the boundaries of what’s possible in e-commerce.
Here’s to another year of pushing pixels, solving problems, and maybe getting a little more sleep (but let’s be realistic).
